You're doing it right now.
You are reading a blog on a screen, either from your phone, laptop, tablet or desktop, that was typed by someone who was doing the same thing.
What am I trying to get at with that? Our society is super-stimulated by media and technology. We're so enchanted by the pixels of it all that we can easily lose track of time and become sleep deprived. In that same sense, we can be very protective over what happens to what we watch.
Take the situation caused by a statement made by Duck Commander's Phil Robertson:
Robertson is put on hiatus from the A&E show "Duck Dynasty" because of A&E not agreeing to what he had said during an interview with a third party (Gentlemen's Quarterly Magazine) and now a Facebook page exists named "Stand with Phil Robertson" (https://www.facebook.com/westandwithphil) has twice as many "Likes" as A&E TV's own page (https://www.facebook.com/AETV).
Not only that, but the reaction from the DD supporters has been so in favor of Phil that it seriously would threaten A&E if a compromise can't be made in returning Phil to the show. As of December 20, 2013, the Robertson family has released a statement that reads "...we cannot imagine the show going forward without the patriarch of our family at the helm." (http://duckcommander.com/news/robertson-family-offical-statement)
This equates to make or break for A&E, whom many consider solely popular due to their ownership of Duck Dynasty. The show brought a whopping 11.8 million viewers during their seasonal premiere in August of 2013 (http://insidetv.ew.com/2013/08/15/holy-duck-aes-duck-dynasty-return-shatters-cable-record/).
It may surprise you, but what really troubles me about the situation in general isn't mainly the freedom of speech issue. What troubles me is that Christians today have been very much inaudible in the media. When someone finally speaks their mind in an unashamed way (67 year old by the way) suddenly a spark has hit with society and some are encouraged by the honesty and unwavering truth to what Phil had said. Not only are Christians encouraged by the boldness of a kindhearted and God fearing man, but also in a way that he has the support of a substantial amount of the American people in general.
Now, yes, it's a fair argument to say that many were angry towards the censorship A&E showed towards the Robertson's, but I don't believe it's too out there to say that some might have felt like Phil has more to say and want to hear why he has the boldness to, in spite of not liking what he said that "... love you anyway." (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pn7nWefn_Ms)
The whole stir that was caused by this proves that God has a place in the media of today and Phil Robertson has taken advantage of it, even if it might hurt. He knows what God's expectations are out of him and his family. Their audience, as mentioned earlier, is too big not for them to share God's truth and love in some way at all.
Have the courage to be bold like Phil has! Be the loving body of Christ. Be more like that perfect bride.
This is your call to action. Go!
